ATHENS - HYDRA

We’ll set out on our excursion to Athens and the Acropolis. We’ll explore the Acropolis, an ancient religious center in Athens that includes the Temple of Athena Nike and the Caryatid Porch of the Erechtheion. Of course, the Parthenon dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron, is not to be missed. After our visit to the Acropolis, enjoy a coach tour of the capital of Greece.

We’ll spend the afternoon cruising the Saronic Gulf.

We'll remain in Hydra for the night.

HYDRA - Corinth Canal - CORINTH

Enjoy a morning on your own in Hydra. As soon as you set foot on the shores of the island, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported back in time. Everything on the island is carried on the backs of mules, on carts, or by hand. There are no cars, but water taxis fly around the island like bees around a hive. Everything slows down to a vacation pace. Homes and manors look like they come straight out of an old film. Hydra’s long maritime history is found in each port. Canons still point to the Aegean Sea, and the homes of skippers line the harbor.

We'll spend the afternoon cruising and will pass through the famous Corinth Canal—one of the highlights of our cruise. It is 4 miles long (6.4 km) and 70 feet wide (24.6 m) at its base, making it impassable for most modern ships. At times, the height of the cliffs on the side of the canal can reach over 260 feet (79.5 m)—an amazing sight in itself. We'll remain in Corinth for the night. Enjoy an evening on the dance floor.

CORINTH

This morning’s excursion: Mycenae and Nafplio. We will leave by coach for Mycenae. Greek mythology states it was founded by Perseus. The earliest archaeological fragments indicate that Mycenae was inhabited in prehistoric times. Our tour includes one of the most visited spots in Mycenae: The Gate of Lions.  We’ll then head to Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece dominated by Palamidi Fortress.  We’ll spend the afternoon cruising.

IGOUMENITSA

One-day Excursion: The Meteora (an approximate 5-hour, round-trip drive). Join us in discovering one of the grandest sites in Greece. Our approach from Kalabaka provides the first stunning views as dozens of monasteries built along steep cliffs seem to defy gravity and the depths of our imaginations. Local legends recount how the rocks fell from the sky so that hermits could retreat there to pray. Later, the Greek Orthodox Church extended this tradition by building isolated monasteries. Even today, monks live in a few of the buildings, and we are allowed to visit them via steep staircases.

We’ll cast off for Dubrovnik. Tonight is our festive gala evening.
